Nina Vallack
Nina Vallack and the WI
Nina joined the WI in 1964, whilst in her early 30’s to make friends and learn new crafts, both of which she did in abundance. In November 2024, Nina celebrated being in the WI for 60 years, all of which was with Ash with Westmarsh WI. She was a font of all knowledge regarding the WI having served on the committee and undertaking the role of President many times as well as being the secretary. At one time Nina shared the President role with two other members (Marjorie Last and Janet Searle) for a year to ensure that the WI did not close.
Nina very much enjoyed learning and excelling at numerous crafts and was an active member of the Sandwich Home and Economic Guild and undertook the role of Chairman. She helped to arrange many outings as well as arranging, exhibiting and winning many of the annual craft shows over the years.
Nina was on the East Kent Federation Home and Economic sub-committee. She was very involved in the Federation 85th anniversary arranging a huge craft competition at Canterbury Academy. She also became a Federation cookery judge.
Nina attended Denman college on numerous occasions to enhance her craft skills.
Nina exceeded at making and decorating cakes and was often called upon when a special cake was needed to celebrate a WI event or birthday. She also excelled at knitting producing beautiful cardigans which she always wore and in later years was proactive in knitting squares for charity. Nina was also known for her wonderful card making skills.
Outside of the monthly meetings Nina enjoyed the walks, meeting up for coffee, playing scrabble, attending the annual carol concerts and the monthly lunch club where she usually had a curry.
Nina will be sorely missed by all her WI friends.
